Blind Dates According to Amy Vanderbilt

According to Amy Vanderbilt, in her 1967 printing of Amy Vanderbilt's New Complete Book of Etiquette: 

"In many girls' colleges and prep schools it is a common practice for boys from other colleges, in groups of two or more, to turn up at dormitories and sororities to check at the desk to see if there are any girls who would like to have dates. While some colleges frown on this practice, others feel that it is acceptable if the boys are careful to identify themselves and if the housemother has an opportunity to look them over and make the introductions."

Somehow this fact totally blew past me during my college years. To be fair to Miss Vanderbilt, the book was originally copyrighted in 1952.
