Robert Hannsen was an FBI agent for over 20 years. And for most of those years, he sold classified information to the Soviets and Russia. His divulging of information resulted in the deaths of several KGB agents spying for the US. When the FBI decided to investigate the sudden deaths of many of their spies in 1987, they tasked the reliable Hannsen with studying the leaks. Hannsen, having leaked the names himself, was able to produce a legitimate-looking report without implicating himself. Hannsen would continue spying until his arrest in 2001. He is now serving a life sentence in prison.
